The Labor Code defines an electrician as a person who engages in the connection of electrical devices for electrical contractors licensed pursuant to Section 7058 of the Business and Professions Code, specifically, contractors classified as electrical contractors in the Contractors' State License Board Rules and Regulations.
All electricians who make connections of greater than 100 volt amps who work for C-10 contractors need have obtained electrical certification and be certified electricians. For obtaining electrical certification, you need to apply for electrician apprenticeships and complete them. The application form is available to download and complete off-line. In order for your registration to be complete, you must show proof of enrollment in a state approved school. There are also online electrical training courses available. Also, all certified electricians need to renew their certifications every three years. For renewal of your CA electrician certification electrician licensees are required to complete 32 hours of continuing education and send the requisite fee to the State of California.
